About the University of Jordan (UJ)

Established in 1962 through a Royal Decree, the University of Jordan (UJ) has flourished into the largest university in Jordan. It is situated in the capital city of Amman and has expanded to include a second branch in the port city of Aqaba. UJ holds an impressive 5 QS Stars rating and consistently ranks among the top 400 universities globally, specifically at 368 in the QS World University Rankings 2025. Overall, UJ also ranked 347 globally in Arts and Humanities domain, 227 in Social Sciences and Management domain, 253 in Engineering and Technology domain, 401-450 in Life Sciences and Medicine domain, and 501-550 in Natural Sciences domain, UJ also in the top 350 globally in international students.

Offering a diverse range of programs across 19 schools, including 11 internationally accredited schools with 48 internationally accredited programs, UJ is centrally located in Amman. It is surrounded by amenities such as shopping centers, eateries, and public transportation. The official currency is the Jordanian Dinar, with Arabic as the official language and English as the primary foreign language.

UJ's mission extends beyond academic excellence, prioritizing quality management principles and integrating cutting-edge technologies into its programs and strategies. The university boasts international accreditation for programs in Medicine, Rehabilitation Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Engineering, Information Technology, Sciences, Foreign Languages, Business, and Agriculture. Since its inception, the University of Jordan has attracted students from over 130 countries worldwide. Presently, the university accommodates students from 84 different nationalities across its diverse array of schools. UJ's campus features a student clinic offering comprehensive healthcare services, including x-rays, laboratory tests, and a pharmacy, with referrals to the University of Jordan Hospital for further treatment as needed. With over 270,000 graduates worldwide, UJ's reputation for employment ranks among the top Universities globally according to the QS 2025 Graduate Employability Rankings with a ranking of 110 globally for its employment outcomes and 197 for its employer reputation. The university provides robust alumni support, with 82% of graduates securing employment within 12 months of graduation.

What are the academic programs offered by the University of Jordan, and what are their tuition fees?

​There are 287 academic programs at the University of Jordan: 102 bachelor's programs, 120 master's programs, 39 PhD programs, and seven higher diploma programs, 22 high specialization programs. For more information about the different programs and the fees, (click ​​here​).



How do I apply for the undergraduate level?

 After you have chosen your program and prepared your documents, you should know that there is two ways to apply: 1. In person. 2. Electronically.

1.    In person:

a.      You or your representative can provide your documents directly to international registration office at the UJ.

b.      You will receive the ID number and the password for student's registration system from the international registration office.

c.       Upon entering the system with your student ID and password, you will find your class schedule and the amount of fees due for completing the registration process.

d.      You can pay your fees through VISA card or direct payment in the university.

2.    Electronically (email):

e.       Upload and send  your Scanned documents  to  regju@ju.edu.jo.

f.        You will receive a reply email containing an ID number and the password for student's registration system.

g.      Upon entering the system with your student ID and password, you will find your class schedule and the amount of fees due for completing the registration process.

h.      You can pay your fees through electronic payment via bank Transfer.​

What are the advantages of living in the city of Amman, in which University of Jordan is located?

​Amman is the capital and the largest city of Jordan, and the country's economic, political, and cultural center. With a population of 4,061,150 as of 2021, Amman is Jordan's primate city and is the largest city in the Levant region, the fifth-largest city in the Arab world, and the tenth-largest metropolitan area in the Middle East.


What are the international accreditations obtained by the University of Jordan?


The University of Jordan is ranked among the top universities in various fields globally, with QS, Times, and Shanghai rankings, and holds international accreditations for 48 programs across 11 schools.​ 

UJ is among the Top 50 globally in Library and Information Science, the Top 100 in Nursing, Hospitality & Leisure Management, and the Top 150 in Pharmacy & Pharmacology and Computer Science & Information Systems. It ranks in the Top 250 for Mathematics and Civil & Structural Engineering, and in the Top 300 for Medicine, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Accounting & Finance, Business & Management Studies, Education, Linguistics, and English Language & Literature. In terms of international accreditations, 11 of our 19th schools are internationally accredited with a total of 48 accredited programs. Specifically, UJ is accredited in:

-The School of Medicine is accredited by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME)

- The School of Dentistry is accredited by both the Association for Dental Education in Europe and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (ADEE)

- The School of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)

- The school of Nursing is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)

- The school of Rehabilitation Science is accredited by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT)

- The School of Engineering, the School of Information Technology, the School of Agriculture, and the School of Science are all accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)

- The School of Foreign Languages is accredited by the evaluation agency of Baden-Wurttemberg (EVALAG)

- The School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) ​






How do I apply for the postgraduate degree?

    After choosing your desired program, please review the eligibility criteria for your chosen program to ensure you meet all the requirements specified by the university as UJ general admission requirements apply to all prospective students. What accomodations are located in and around the University of Jordan?

​For female students, the university provides supervised boarding housing in two main dorms located within its campus: Jerash and Ammon (see here link). Both dorms provide single, double, and triple rooms. All rooms are furnished and have a small kitchen. Nevertheless, if you wish to live outside the main campus, many residential apartments are available all around the university campus. What activities can I do at the University of Jordan?

​1. Visiting the university library: library of Jordan University (ju.edu.jo), ​The University of Jordan Library has been serving students and researchers since the establishment of the University of Jordan in 1962. It has been operating from its 12,700 square meter main building, in addition to its 11 minor reading rooms, disseminated across the various schools of the University. The Library’s organizational structure comprises three departments and nine sections, which deliver services efficiently to students, academics and members of staff, along with users and researchers from the local community. In keeping with the latest innovations in the field of library science and technology, the University of Jordan Library implements a modern and user-friendly interface listing its content to users everywhere. The Library serves around 9,000 to 11,000 users every day and contains around 1,065,909 items.

2. Visitng the museum: 
The Archaeology Museum was established in 1962, the same year in which the University of Jordan was established. Since its founding, the museum has been continuously expanding its collection.  The objects in the museum are gathered from two main sources: The Department of Antiquities, and the excavations carried out by the Archaeology Department (Faculty of Archaeology and Tourism) in a number of sites, including: Tell Siran, Jerash, Petra, Tell al-Mazar, Tell Nimren, Yajuz, Rujum el-Kursi, Wadi al Yutum and Magass (Aqaba), Tell Abu es-Sawwan,Tell es-Sukhnah and Ein al-Beida (Amman).
The museum's collections are organized in chronological order, extending from pre-historic periods up to the late Islamic periods. They summarize the history of Jordan and reflect the experiences of its people.
The museum houses the necessary facilities and equipment to support its academic and educational goals. The museum works in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Resources Management and Conservation to, clean, restore and maintain artifacts​


3.AthleticFacilities:  Walking track,  Health and fitness center,  a private fitness hall with various equipment,  Multi-purpose outdoor sports games, ​Gymnastics hall, Swimming pool.



Is there health insurance for students?

All UJ students are medically insured once accepted. In the case that you need medical assistance, specialized treatment can be provided both at the student clinic which is located next to the deanship of student affairs or at the University of Jordan Hospital which is also located within the Campus.​

Do I need a visa to enter Jordan?

In most cases your visa will be issued at the airport upon your arrival to Jordan which costs around 55 dollars. However if you hold a foreign nationality from a restricted cou​ntries (see list), to issue a study visa,  you have to send the following information before arriving to Jordan to the Foreign Students Affairs Office  at UJ  foreign.st@ju.edu.jo.  Afterwards the office will provide you with the visa proof within 20-30 working days. 

Required information:

1.Proof of student status in Arabic for the current semester.

2.The first page of the passport (passport validity must not be less than 6 months).

3.Authorized mobile number.

4.Mother's name.​​

What are the certificate equivelancy procedures?

For International students holding an international certificate from either in Jordan or outside of Jordan (e.g. :I.B., SAT,G.C.E., ets.. .), you need to start the equivalency process at the Ministry of education(click here) or at the Ministry of education in your country showing the average and the branch for Arab secondary certificates that do not contain the average or branch. Afterward, you need to certify this equivalency from the Jordan Ministry of education.

For International students with a Saudi Arabia certificate, you need to get an equivalence from the Ministry of Education in Jordan.

(Important note: If student unable to provide the university with the equivalency of the certificate before arriving in Jordan, they can do this process during the first semester).​


What is the academic calendar?

The registration for international students is available throughout the academic year, except for the schools of medicine and dentistry, where registration follows the academic calendar, which normally starts in October. Academic calendar ​

What is the academic year?

​Is a two semester: regular (first and second) and separate optional (summer), and the period of regular semester is (16) weeks, and the period of the summer semester is (8) weeks. 

What is the credit hour?

​It is the weight of subject, if the subject is (3) hours this means that student must attend a lecture 3 hours per week troughout the regular semester

What is the study plan?

​Is the subject that the student must studied to complete the requirements for obtaining a university degree and it consists of university requirements ​compulsory and optional, and collage requirements compulsory and optional and free subject. 

What are the required documents to register for the bachelor degree?

1. A copy of the passport.

2. Three passport-sized photos.

3. General Secondary Certificate.


What are the required documents to register for the postgraduate degree?

Required Documents:

The student's application must include the following documents compiled into a single PDF file (with a size of less than 6 MB):

1.  A copy of the General Secondary Certificate (high school or Tawjihi).

2.  A copy of the bachelor's degree.

3.  For doctoral students, a copy of the master's degree with a rating of at least Good.

4.  Transcripts for all academic years of both the bachelor's and master's degrees.

5. The grading system used by the student's university (for graduates of non-Jordanian universities).

6. A personal photograph.

7.  A copy of the passport.​



What is the level exam (for students of bachelor)?

​On each new student to provide the level of three exams during the first semester of joining the university in the following subjects: (arabic, english, and computer skills) that to determine theirs level in these subjects. 

Can the international student work while studying in Jordan?

Unfortunately, international students are not allowed to work while studying in Jordan under a student visa.​

Can the international student transfer to the university of Jordan from a university outside of Jordan?

​Yes, although he/she may lose some credits ​and requires extra time to complete his/her degree as it is a policy to only accredit up to a certain amount of hours.
